LOCAL children are facing hunger because they will not be receiving meals at their schools during the five-week long school winter holidays. For some, their school meal is their only meal of the day.
How can we put a smile on the faces of our children in the Drakenstein Community during this time of celebration for South Africa?
The mission of the Drakenstein Service Forum is to co-ordinate community service and the vision is to maximise service to the community.
Members of the Service Forum are service clubs (Rotary, Round Table & Lions) and service organisations (NGO’s, Valcare & FBO’s) whose current urgent concern is how to ensure that children get at least one meal a day during the long school holiday. R100 will provide soup and bread to 80 children per day.
Five local organisations aim to provide food for 240 children (R300) each per week-day (R1500 per week) and R7500 for five weeks. They are Norsa (located in the OR area in Wellington), Drakenstein Palliative Hospice (Fairyland from Butterfly House), Monte Christo Ministries (Chicago from their sports field), Miqlat (Amstelhof) and Paarl Lions (Klapmuts). Monte Christo Ministries will make the soup and bread daily for distribution.
They can do the work, but need the community to assist with donations. One area will be rolled out at a time, not to create an unrealistic expectation.
Extra money will mean that they can reach more children. Help make a difference during this cold, wet time and put a smile on a child’s face.
Donations can be made to FACE: Monte Christo Ministries, Nedbank Paarl (149812), Account 149810 929.
Cash donations can be made at the office of Drakenstein Palliative Hospice, at 109 Breda Street, Paarl.
