Santé Winelands Hotel to be revived
2010-05-27
A NEW lease on life is planned for the once lavish winelands hotel and spa, Santé, three years after it came crashing down. Santé was forced to close its doors when its owners, the Fidentia-group, were placed under curatorship. Various plans have through the years been drafted to revive Santé, including an attempt to have it restored in time for the World Cup to host a soccer team, but all fell by the wayside. After much negotiation, local businessman, Carlos Vilela, managed to clinch a deal with the curator of Fidentia, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyer, to rent this grand establishment for a period of ten years with the possible option of buying Santé during this period. Vilela is carrying the costs of restoring this once exclusive wellness centre back to a world class facility. The hotel consists of 10 bedrooms and the building is surrounded by villas with altogether 39 suites. Two restaurants, Cadeaux and Sommelier, will be overseen by chef Niel Rogers. The resurrection of Santé is sure to boost the economy of the area, creating approximately 150 employment opportunities. Santé Winelands Hotel and Spa is set to open its doors on 1 June.
