Mbekweni strives to fight crime
2010-05-27
THE Mbekweni police would have celebrated 60 days without a murder in this crime ridden area tomorrow. But this target came crashing down on Monday, when a victim of a stabbing died in Tygerberg Hospital. The victim, a Mozambican, had an argument with two of his compatriots on Saturday evening in a tavern in OR. He was rushed to Paarl Hospital and due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to Tygerberg before his death. The two suspects gave themselves up at the Mbekweni police station on Monday morning. Station Commander Lt/Col Cornelius Geldenhuys expressed his regret at the latest murder: “We have been fighting very hard for a crime free Mbekweni and have had many successes. But this latest incident will not deter us from continuing our battle against crime. “We would also like to thank the community for their assistance in helping us to bring down the levels of crime.” Report crimes to 021-868-9900.
