Gruesome sabotage on Wellington farm
2010-06-10
A WELLINGTON farmer currently does not know where to turn, following a spate of incidents of apparent sabotage on his farm. Lewis Bouchard (79) has in recent months not only experienced malicious damage done to his property, but a number of lambs have also been mutilated and killed. Bouchard’s woes started when an irate employee left his employ, after he had been suspected of theft. He then refused to work on Bouchard’s Standvastigheid farm in the Agter-Groenberg area, but yet remained in a labourer’s house. And then the trouble began. First his vehicles were sabotaged and then the killing started. Bouchards found lambs smothered to death and a ram beaten to death. Recently he was faced with the carcasses of two four month old lambs which had been killed. The one had been stabbed to death, and the other one’s throat had been haphazardly cut. “I don’t know where to go from here. The police seem unable to help me and judicially my hands are cut off. Even though the suspect no longer works for me, I cannot get him off my land.” A spokesperson for the police said that they were aware of Bouchard’s plight. “We have our suspicions, but unfortunately have no adequate evidence to arrest him. We are however keeping an eye on the situation and are hoping that we will soon be able to bring him before a court of law.”
