Help the Haven Night Shelter help homeless people

2010-06-10

THE Haven Night Shelter in Paarl normally provides shelter and assistance to 120 people per day. With the heavy rains and cold nights of winter, many homeless and destitute persons will however have to face the harshness of the elements without shelter.

The Night Shelter has appealed to the community of Drakenstein to help them to care for homeless people during the winter months by making a financial donation of R20 to provide space bags in which people can sleep on the street.

You can also donate ingredients for their soup kitchen for homeless people held twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays).

You can also donate blankets, linen and mattresses so that they can accommodate more homeless and destitute people (a mattress on the floor in a shelter is better than a cardboard box under a tree).

Instead of giving homeless people money, rather buy a Haven Passport for R10 at the shelter. This entitles any homeless person to a meal, a shower, clothing as available, a bed if available, and assistance from Social Services in finding their way home.

All donations will be acknowledged and the Haven Organisation standards and operation procedures guarantees that your donation is used for the homeless people in their care. Donations given to the Haven Night Shelter are tax deductible under their Public Benefit Organisation number (PBO 18/11/13/2172). Financial donations can be made into the Haven Night Shelter account 1470-055-716 at Nedbank, branch code 147-005 (reference Donation). For further information, call 078-7975-737.
