Jazzart auditions

THE Jazzart Dance Theatre are holding auditions in September for talented young people over 17 years-old, who are keen to join their Young Adult Training & Job Creation Programme.
The audition process includes an interview with potential trainees to assess the individual’s emotional and intellectual suitability, and a series of classes designed to determine physical aptitude in the areas of improvisation, rhythm and group co-operation.
Aside from being over 17 years of age, those applying to audition for the Jazzart Dance Theatre Young Adult Training & Job Creation should demonstrate a strong interest and commitment to the performing arts, especially contemporary dance.
No prior training is necessary.
The first audition will take place on Sunday at 10:00 at the Artscape Theatre Centre.

The Young Adult Training & Job Creation Programme Training is demanding, requiring the participants' full-time commitment for eleven months of each year.
No fees are payable and trainees who can prove that they need further financial assistance are provided with taxi fare and lunch money during their first year of study - with possible greater financial assistance in following years.
Instruction is given at the Artscape Theatre Centre - home of Jazzart Dance Theatre.
The teaching faculty is drawn from national experts in the fields of contemporary dance, contact improvisation, ballet technique, physical development, tap, African dance, stagecraft, voice training and appropriate numeracy and literacy academic studies through UNISA.
Graduates of the programme can expect to develop skills that will make them employable in national and international contemporary dance companies, as well the commercial dance industry, and as contemporary dance teachers and choreographers in formal and community education systems.
