Proudly Pinotage competition time

Proudly Pinotage competition time

2010-06-17

IT is that time of the year again when wine makers can start entering their Pinotage wines, for the Absa Top 10 Pinotage competition.

The closing date for entries is 15 July, slightly later than normal, to accommodate the Soccer World Cup.

The Absa Top 10 Pinotage competition attracted 139 entries in 2009 including three from New Zealand. In 2008 there was only one international entry and this was from California (USA).

This is proof that the prestigious competition organised by the Pinotage Association in conjunction with Absa, as sponsor, not only attracts South African Pinotage producers, but international producers are also starting to show interest.

This momentum is in line with the objectives of the Absa Top10 Pinotage competition, which is, to create international recognition for Pinotage as a premium red wine varietal and to ensure that South Africa remains the leader in all aspects of its cultivation and vinification.

The closing date for entries is 15 July, but late entries will be accepted up to 30 July (at a penalty of R375 per wine). Entries cost R375 per wine for members of the Pinotage Association and non-members pay R750. Visit www.pinotage.co.za.
