Gold for KWV

2010-06-17

SINCE its creation in 1994, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has set itself up as the wine and spirit “world championship” with almost 7000 participating products from four continents.

With a jury made up solely of professionals, the awards bring together the most accomplished wine experts - from all over the world - every year.

This year, South Africa was awarded sixth place, after France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Chile, among wineries from 30 countries. KWV brought home eight medals in total from the awards across both the wine and brandy categories including three medals for KWV Brandy.

The KWV 15 Year Old won a gold medal for the second year running. Since its first release in 2006, the KWV 15 Year Old has won two highly regarded trophies. This includes its success in 2007 when it was awarded Best Worldwide Brandy at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition.

A true favourite from KWV, the KWV 10 Year old, also won a silver medal along with the KWV 20 Year Old.

KWV Brandy is renowned for creating world class brandies. With Chief Brandy Master Kobus Gelderblom at the helm, KWV offers a premium portfolio of 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20 Year Old brandies. All the brandies at KWV are potstilled to perfection.

“We are extremely proud of our quality brandies and wines, and believe that these eight prestigious awards show KWV’s commitment to creating world class products that continuously deliver exceptional quality,” says Gelderblom.

KWV The Mentors wine range was awarded five medals, with the The Mentors Sauvignon Blanc 2009 and The Mentors Petit Verdot 2008 winning gold.

The Mentors Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon 2009 was awarded a silver medal, as were the two blends in The Mentors range – Orchestra 2008 and Canvas 2008.

Chief winemaker Richard Rowe attributes the success of this range to sound winemaking practices.

“Our team is focused on selecting the right parcels of fruit and combining these with simple, sound winemaking principles to achieve better wines stylistically which are the perfect companions to food.”
