Drakenstein goes orange

THE Dutch are in town. The almost 1000 De Oranjecamping soccer supporters from the Netherlands, who are currently camping at the Berg River Resort outside Paarl, will paint the Cape Winelands and Cape Town orange in the next day or two. On Tuesday a total of 175 vehicles, consisting of 130 motor-homes and five overlander safari trucks, arrived in Paarl to set up camp. Today the De Oranjecamping visitors will walk from the campsite to the Paarl railway station at 10:45 to take an exclusive train into Cape Town to attend the Dutch WorldCup Soccer game against Cameroon. There the fans will head for the FIFA Fan Fest on the Parade to start the orange party in the Mother City. Approximately two hours before the match, all fans of the Dutch national team will walk the Fan Mile towards Cape Town Stadium. On Friday afternoon the Dutch visitors will join the local public at the Drakenstein public viewing area at the Boland Cricket Stadium. The renowned international Dutch singer Jan Smit and South African singer Kurt Darren will be part of the Oranje Day programme that is presented by Drakenstein Municipality. The singers will perform after the match between Brazil and Portugal (16:00) which can be viewed on the big screen. Entry to this venue is free.
