2010-06-24
KWV’s The Mentors Shiraz 2008 has won a gold medal at the prestigious Syrah du Monde international wine awards and was ranked second overall in the competition (one of two SA wines in the top ten). This award also made it the top Shiraz of all South African wines entered, marking a significant achievement for the wine making team at KWV in Paarl. The Syrah du Monde international wine competition is widely recognised as one the world’s premier events for Syrah/Shiraz wines. Now in its fourth year, the Syrah du Monde competition has carved out a name for itself among wine competitions thanks to its optimal tasting conditions and rigorous quality standards. The Syrah du Monde 2010 brought together 387 wines from 27 countries, but awarded only 130 gold and silver medals at the end of the three day tasting period. “The Mentors range typifies our pursuit of excellence and quality and epitomises what South African Shiraz has to offer, ” says Jeff Gradwell, Brand Director. High scores were given to wines with excellent varietal character, and well-balanced oak was also considered to be a plus. Said Richard Rowe, chief winemaker at KWV, “The Mentors Shiraz 2008 is an elegant wine with finesse and reflects our evolutionary development in wine-making and our focus on producing internationally appealing wines.”
