Queenie 2000! on stage at the Bastille Festival
2010-07-01
QUEENIE 2000!, a punchy, cabaret-style drama under the direction of Grant Jefthas, is about to hit the “circuit” in Franschhoek. The drama launches at the annual Bastille Festival on 18 July at the Franschhoek Town Hall (19:00). Grant Jefthas, who studied B.Comm. Communication Management at the North West University in Potchefstroom, was actively involved in dramatic arts development at university and has written, directed and marketed three successful dramas. He also piloted the now self-existing Divaco Entertainment Group at the university which focuses on drama, dance and poetry. Three months after being back in his hometown the drama bug was still biting him. Auditions were held on 8 May giving youth from all churches the opportunity to audition. Eight dedicated youngsters between the ages of 17 and 25 were chosen for the cast. Grant rewrote Lloyd Davids’s Queenie & Kie and feels the story will blow people’s minds! It is the story of eight vagrants and how they were led to salvation and freedom. The story is cleverly re-written, with hilarious anecdotes and moments that will leave you emotionally captivated. The show will appeal to everyone. The director jokingly declares that he does not want to reveal too much at this stage, and that as soon as you recover from your World Cup “fever” he strongly suggests that Queenie is not to be missed. It’s powerful in its simplicity, and will inspire, entertain and move your spirit for days to come. Tickets are R20 from Ruth Morgan on 072-029-8475.
