Local business owners can win big

Local business owners can win big

2010-07-01

LOCAL business owners can now compete for a coveted title and heaps of cash in the Sanlam/Business Partners Entrepreneur of the Year Competition.

The overall winner gets R100 000 in cash and will be crowned as South Africa’s Entrepreneur of the Year.

Only owners of emerging, small and medium businesses may take part.

The competition was initiated in 1989 to give recognition to the vision, innovation, perseverance, drive and commitment of the individuals who run successful small and medium enterprises.

This year sees a dramatic change to the current format of the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year Award, seeing that Sanlam has thrown its weight behind it and given the fact that the competition has now been opened up to all business owners in South Africa.

There are three categories: Emerging Entrepreneur (business younger than three years old), Small Business Entrepreneur (turnover up to R20 million) and Medium Business Entrepreneur (turnover greater than R20 m, but less than R200 m).

Category winners will receive R20 000 in prize money. The overall winner will go home with R100 000 in cash, the opportunity to attend an international conference or trade show, as well as extensive exposure in the public domain to get the sales rolling in.

During the course of this year, the project will host an extensive series of SME-focused seminars and workshops around the country.

This will culminate in an SME conference in October where SME decision-makers will be able to voice their opinion of the operating environment presented in South Africa and the challenges faced.

The seminars, workshops and conferences will focus on areas such as financial planning, financial fitness assessment, business opportunities and advice and access to finance.

Information on legal developments and changes to the regulatory environment will also be shared with delegates.
