Creating a BEE win for all

Creating a BEE win for all

2010-07-08

MANY businessmen view BEE as an administrative annoyance and occasionally misconstrue it as something that could cost a majority share of their business.

A more optimistic view is shared by Derick van Staden of Bergrivier Besproeiing BK, that it is an opportunity to grow your business and ultimately improve your bottom line, as contributions to socio-economic development (1% of post-tax profits or 1% of total employee time) also feature on the BEE score-card.

When all factors of your service or product are equal to that of your competitor, your BEE rating could be the major deciding factor in the deal.

The broad based BEE scorecard makes provision for seven elements allowing businesses to develop a score which enables them to satisfy BEE needs.

The Socio-Economic Development pillar encourages organisations to donate to qualifying NGOs and this has resulted in a mutually beneficial opportunity for both Bergrivier Besproeiing and Butterfly House.

Butterfly House is the venue for the Drakenstein Palliative Hospice Day Care Programmes, situated in Fairyland. It aims to provide services which will add to the quality of life of patients, their families (infected and affected) and others made vulnerable through neglect, abuse, malnutrition, substance abuse, extreme poverty and illness. The nature of the work, as well as the profile of the people who benefit from the services provided by Drakenstein Palliative Hospice, qualifies it as an ideal NPO for BEE donations.

Bergrivier Besproeiing’s monetary donation last year, as well as the printer given to Butterfly House last week, helps to increase their BEE score.

Neil Lerm of Kinetek selflessly gave up his time to set up the printer for Fiona Brophy, the co-ordinator at Butterfly House. Anyone requiring additional information may contact Karen Barkley at 021-872-4060.
