THE 2008 La Motte Shiraz has already won gold at the 2010 Santam Trophy Wine Show, and this before it has been officially released.
The La Motte 2008 Shiraz is already maintaining the strong standing of a long line of award-winning La Motte Shiraz wines, and will undoubtedly continue to do so until the release of the 2009.
La Motte has produced Shiraz for almost three decades and all of the Shiraz wines bottled at La Motte have been awarded countless times in wine competitions around the world. Amongst the awards won are gold and silver medals from the Michelangelo International Wine Awards for the 1999 (gold) and 2001 (silver) vintages. Wine magazine gave the 2002 vintage four stars in their Top Shiraz Challenge in 2004.
The 2003 won a double gold at the 2005 Michelangelo Awards. The 2005 vintage won gold at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelle in 2007, and the list goes on.
The 2008 vintage was made from grapes originating from Walker Bay (29%), Swartland (27%), Paarl (26%) and Elim (18%) and early predictions by local farmers had been of early fruits, a prediction which was proven accurate in the end, and which resulted in sugar levels raising slowly which is a very positive aspect in Shiraz production.
The weather preceding ripening was cool; thereby creating the perfect conditions for an exceptional year. The resulting wine shows a prominent varietal-dominant nose with cloves, nutmeg and black pepper backed by mulberry fruit and other tones. It has a juicy mid-palate and a complex, layered finish.
This wine is best enjoyed with game, patés, roast beef, mutton, or simply on a cold winter’s day with good company.
