Allandale wins sevens clash

THE Clash of the Titans, the junior sevens rugby and development initiative, was hosted by the Drakenstein Municipality and Bright Idea Projects recently at the Dal Josaphat Stadium. The event was established to create recreational activities for the youth in Drakenstein through junior rugby coaching clinics, which entailed the basic elements of sevens rugby regarding continuity, agility, defensive situations, running abilities and rules of the game for safety in sports activities. The clinics engaged 300 youths ranging from the age of twelve years old to sixteen years old from the areas of Saron, Gouda, Windmeul, Mbekweni, Paarl and Simondium. The final event drew 180 youngsters producing running and agile rugby from the various teams that participated. A total of 102 tries (510 points) were scored on the final day by the u.12’s, u.14’s and u.16 teams. The main event, the final of the Super 16 tournament (u.16’s), was won convincingly by Allandale, who beat Gouda 33-15. The final of the Super 12 tournament (u.12) was won by Simondium. They beat Vineyards 48-0. Windmeul won the third place play-offs against Riverstones 12-0. In the final of the Super 14 tournament, Windmeul beat Simondium in the last few minutes (17-10). Vineyards won the third place play-off against Allandale 27-0).
