I TRULY welcome Dr Sidima Kabanyane’s very original idea of telling the truth to the taxpayers of Drakenstein Municipality about the Fifa fan park (see letters page last week), as this is a new phenomenon during the past decade under ANC rule.
From day one, no-one had a problem with putting up an accredited FIFA “Fan Park”. Rather, some taxpayers commented on the way it was done, resulting in wasteful and fruitless expenditure by the Municipality.
The Council’s spokesperson, May Carolissen, stated in the press that the Fan Park adhered to all logistical processes.
Dr Sidima Kabanyane, please tell us the truth about the amount that was spent on putting up this PVA, to transport people back and forth to and from the venue, what procurement procedures were followed and to whom the monies were paid.
Tell the truth why tender processes weren’t followed in the above as well as for the flags (“Paarl 2010”) hanging in the streets and why a second batch of flags had to be printed.
Tell the truth of how much money was spent on food and liquor to entertain the ANC cadres of the Municipality and their familiesF while the less privileged went hungry and are still going hungry.
Please tell the truth about how much of the taxpayers’ money was spent by Drakenstein politicians and officials on tickets, accommodation, food, liquor and travel to attend World Cup games, while the national Minister of Finance explicitly forbade it.
Tell the truth how much the ANC ruled Municipality overspent on the 2010 FIFA budget.
Tell the truth on how much money was spent on fruitless trips abroad, even after it became abundantly clear that Paarl would not qualify for a base camp.
Tell the truth what costs were incurred by staff (such as yourself) not being in the office while visiting PVAs.
Ass you so aptly put it, “I know this because I was there all along and observed firsthand how much excitement the PVAs brought to these people who normally would not have been part of the tournament”.
Also tell the truth about the amount of money that was wasted on sending four people from the Municipality to the Netherlands shortly before the World Cup.
