KWV to engage with neighbours in Paarl

2010-07-29

KWV has launched an initiative in Paarl to engage with all the residents that live adjacent to KWV vineyards.

The initiative follows interaction with a number of stakeholders over the past months, aimed at improving communication and technology application around vineyard spraying.

For KWV, vineyard spraying is part of its management interventions in the production of grapes. It is predominantly a disease and weed preventative measure that is applied in line with the guidelines stipulated by the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW).

IPW is a voluntary environmental sustainability scheme established by the South African wine industry in 1998 and complies with international wine industry environmental sustainability criteria.

Integrated production is a holistic approach that guarantees that grape production is undertaken with due consideration of the environment, and that the wine was produced in an environmentally responsible manner and is safe to the consumer.

KWV hopes to communicate proactively with residents living adjacent to vineyards to inform them of spraying times, spray products and be able to answer any questions that residents might have.

For this purpose the company has created a vineyard helpline which people can phone on 021-807-3414 during work hours.

Any residents that would like to be notified of spraying can fax their contact details to 086-545-1065 or e-mail events@kwv.co.za.
