The truth must be told - Part 3

The truth must be told - Part 3

2010-07-29

THE opening paragraph of the letter by Mr Naudé almost misled me into believing that here was a man who got the gist of my letter and the message in it that our municipal council did well in setting up a public viewing area for the Soccer World Cup for its residents. I quickly found out how wrong I was in believing that.

His letter was populated with unsubstantiated and baseless information that does not even provoke me to respond to each of those issues.

Nonetheless I would like to say to him, with all due respect, using the media to indict the municipality with allegations that are truly baseless does not warrant me to “tell the truth” as he suggested.

His insinuation that tax-payers’ money were used by Drakenstein politicians and officials on tickets, accommodation and so on to attend World Cup games leaves much to be desired. This is not only incorrect, but it borders in telling a deliberate lie. I wonder who has been feeding him with all those lies.

The least I can say is that, if by any means I have offended him by my original letter, I am truly sorry. It was never my intention.

My intention was to bring to the attention of citizens of this municipality the fact that our council did well in providing a Public Viewing Area to Drakenstein. This was an act that enabled a multitude of ordinary citizens to be part of the World Cup.

Our people were then not left out, but became part of the national celebration of the most successful tournament that was hosted by our country, and by so doing silencing many critics who did not want the tournament to be here in the first place. Feel it, it was here.

Dr Sidima Kabanyane

(Municipal Manager)
