2010-08-05
THE fourth event in the Drakenstein Super Cycle Road Series was hosted on Saturday, starting and finishing at the Boland Cricket Stadium in Paarl. Young Stefan Ihlenfeldt of Team Cape Town Market was the strongest rider in the 123 km race in the open category and sprinted to victory. It was David Garrett (2nd, Team Daikin GU) that was in front most of the day and rode a very aggressive race. Victor Grobbelaar finished third. He was also the first junior. They were followed by Evan Carstens (4th) and Reniell Matthyssen (5th, Wilde Fruit). Hannes Basson (CycleLab) was the 2nd junior of the day. In the u.16 category the sprint to the line was won by Bradwin Daniels (PECO) over Brent van Rooyen of Rhadsport. Dino Daniels of EMG Yorkshire was third. Jean Claude Jantjies (EMG Yorkshire) showed his dominance in the u.14 category and won this race. He was followed by Lee-Arthur Green and Graeme Ockhuis (both EMG Yorkshire). The u.12 race was won by Gregory de Vink of City Cycling Club and he was followed by Daniston Perrins (EMG Yorkshire). ) The events in the Drakenstein Super Cycle Road Series are thus far very successful and give the riders valuable competition during the cold winter months in the Cape. It is also great preparation for the upcoming PPA Spring League Events. The Drakenstein Traffic Department also plays a vital role in ensuring the riders’ safety on the roads. The next event that is planned on the series calendar is a two-day tour for all categories on 28 and 29 August. Visit www.bolandcycling.co.za for more details.
