RADIO KC helped to build my image within the community and I became recognisable and well-known, says Gustav Skippers of his time with the radio station.

“I started with Radio KC in 1996 as a presenter and sound engineer. While I enjoyed working at the station as a volunteer, I left a few times due to financial difficulties.”

He then worked for a year in Johannesburg for another community radio station, Radio Eldo’s, and came back in December 2003 to Cape Town.

Earlier this year he was selected as a learner with ESP Afrika on a live event production learnership through Create SA. “Since then I worked on productions like the hip hop event “Fire on the Mountain” in Franschhoek.

“I also worked on the famous North sea Jazz Festival, now known as the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.”

One of the highlights of his career was his recent tour with American singing icon Belinda Carlisle.

“Radio KC provided me with a lot of opportunities and I was willing to explore all of them. “I still enjoy working at the station and will for this summer present Saturday afternoons from 12 till 2.

“I will always be loyal to Radio KC and my community because I owe this community a lot.

“God has got a plan for my life and I live to fulfill each one of my dreams.

“People like Franklin Huizies, Harlan Cloete and many other brave men that dared to dream the impossible dream, are my heroes.”
