THE latest South African wine quality ratings are now available on the website www.sawineindex.com. This includes several wines which joined the 96+ Club, with wines from Kanonkop and Eagles Nest scoring a perfect 100.
Saronsberg Cellar with 5 wines, Rijks Private Estate with 4 and Bouchard Finlayson, Spier, Rustenburg en Nitida each with 3 wines, impress particularly.
The Index has over a short period of time presented a new quality benchmark for South African Wines, with wine buyers for the trade, hotels, restaurants, clubs and the like globally, having taken particular note, and starting to adjust their wine buying patterns accordingly.
The Index considers the combined preferences of a diverse group of judges from various wine panels over several vintage years and presents it in a points form score out of 100. As such it provides a condensed capsule of wine awards for a particular wine, with weights ascribed to the different wine competitions and where recognition is given to the consistency of results.
