THE 2010 edition of the Cultivaria arts festival will not only be a feast for entertainment lovers, but wine enthusiasts will also have ample opportunity to sample some of the most popular wines from the region.

From 23 to 26 September, festival-goers will be able to enjoy wines from Simonsvlei, Glen Carlou, Du Toit’s Kloof, Freedom Hill and 10 Chapters.

Simonsvlei has renewed its agreement as official wine supplier to the festival and will feature prominently during the Bovril Black Tie dinner.

Three cultivar wines from the Simonsvlei Premier Selection range will be paired with the tantalising three-course menu to be served during the elegant outdoor gala dinner. Simonsvlei wines will also be served during food and wine tastings in the Bokomo Kitchen at Faure Street Stadium, where TV chef Sonia Cabano and local chefs Johan Bakkes and Dine van Zyl will offer mouth-watering cooking demonstrations and tastings.

Festival visitors will also be able to sample wines from all the participating wineries at the Heinz Emporium at the Faure Stadium.

The open plan entertainment area is the perfect place to relax between productions and enjoy a glass of wine with a variety of local delicacies.

Food vendors will tantalise the taste buds with delicious snacks and meals ranging from traditional braaivleis, boerewors, sosaties and stews to sumptuous strawberries and cream. Various arts and crafts will also be on sale. Entry to the emporium is included with the purchase of a ticket to any Cultivaria production on the same day. Alternatively, tickets will also be available at the gates at R10 per person. There are still a few stands available.

According to festival director Gerhard Meyer, Cultivaria (main sponsors are the Municipality and FNB) offers visitors an authentic Boland experience with a scintillating combination of culture, fine food and fabulous wines.

“The festival is the perfect showcase for the unique tourism offerings of the Drakenstein region. We present visitors with the opportunity to sample the best of Paarl and surrounds, while our local producers benefit from the vehicle we have created to present their brands to a distinctive audience,” mentions Meyer.
