Excitement builds in MTB league
2010-09-02
WITH only two Western Cape regional events before the national finals of the 2010 Spur High School MTB League in October, tension is rising amongst Western Cape Schools for the top position in the log. League events run on a lap race format and riders participate in a 4-6 km lap, depending on the terrain. Riders generate points for their high schools on a points table, which is managed by Amarider. The strong team of Montana High in Worcestor is currently in the lead, followed by Parel Vallei High in second spot and Paarl Boys’ High in third position. Participants that enter the regional championship race at Delvera on Saturday, 4 September, will earn double points for their schools. According to Meurant Botha of race hosts Amarider, the more riders from the respective schools enter, the better their chances to up their position on the log. “Delvera offers a fun racing environment with great spectator vantage points of the 5km track and we would like to urge all mountain-bike enthusiasts to diarise the event,” says Meurant. Registration starts at 08:00 at the Dirtopia Trail Centre. The entry fee is R30 for all categories.
