ARE you a South African, an individual or organisation, keen to see an improvement in the functioning of self-regulation in the Press in South Africa?
If you are, the Task Team set up by the Press Council of SA would love to hear your suggestions as it completely reviews the Council’s constitution, the SA Press Code and its Complaints Procedures.
Nearly 700 newspapers and magazines - commercial and community publications - subscribe to the Press Code, the cornerstone of our current system of self-regulation, whose major objective is “to promote and to develop excellence in journalistic practice and ethics”.
You may download the three documents that are being revamped from the council’s website www.presscouncil.org.za.
Please send your suggestions before 15 October to review@ombudsman.org.za or write to the Task Team, PO Box 47221, Parklands, 2121.
The team is to report back with its findings and recommendations to the Press Council at its next quarterly meeting in November. - Press
