NEDERBURG has won the Western Cape Botrytis Trophy at the 2010 International Wine Challenge (IWC) in London for the 2009 vintage of its popular dessert wine, the Winemaster’s Reserve Noble Late Harvest, also a gold medalist on the show.
The news was followed by a slew of citations at this year’s Michelangelo International Wine Awards of South Africa, when the winery earned a Grand d’Or, six gold and ten silver medals.
The botrytis trophy is the latest in a string of successes for the 2009 Noble Late Harvest, made from grapes infected with noble rot. Earlier this year, it won silver medals at both the Decanter’s World Wine Awards, as well as the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show.
The latest IWC trophy contributed to South Africa’s winning of the IWC White Winemaker of the Year award.
The preceding vintage of the wine, the 2008, rates five stars in the current 2010 edition of the Platter South African Wine Guide.
The Michelangelo Grand d’Or went to the 2009 vintage of natural sweet wine, Eminence.
