Windmeul scoops coveted wine award

2010-09-16

THE Windmeul Cellar in Paarl has won the coveted acclaim of its peers, in being adjudged best producer at the 2010 Winemakers’ Choice Diamond Awards.

The Winemakers’ Choice Awards is the only competition in South Africa to be judged exclusively by winemakers, making this show truly unique.

Windmeul won diamond awards for three wines - the 2009 Pinotage Reserve, the 2009 Shiraz Reserve and the 2009 Cape Blend.

Other diamond awards were given to Anura Sauvignon Blanc 2009 and Anura Pinotage Reserve 2008, the Môreson Premium Chardonnay 2009, and KWV The Mentors Viognier.

Says KWV The Mentors Brand Director, Jeff Gradwell, “This has been an exceptional year for the Mentors range as it has performed well in both international and local competitions. The Mentors range typifies our pursuit of excellence and quality and epitomises the new KWV energy.”

Johann Fourie, Senior Winemaker, adds: “Working with Viognier is a challenge from year to year, as the grape variety is unpredictable. We are ecstatic for this wine to not just be the only Viognier, but also the only wine, in the ‘Other White’ varietals category to be acknowledged with a Diamond award”.
