THE Frank Pietersen Music Centre in Paarl has been named the official beneficiary of the 2010 Cultivaria arts festival.
The centre, which commemorates its 40th anniversary this year, will form an integral part of the exciting festival line-up from 23 to 26 September.
The Centre’s youth symphony orchestra will be performing live during the Bovril black-tie gala dinner on 23 September.
The centre was started by local musician Frank Pietersen in 1970 with only 34 learners and a group of volunteer music teachers. Today the centre boasts over 350 learners and seven full-time and twelve part-time educator positions as well as support staff. The centre offers training for strings, percussion, woodwind and brass instruments as well as piano, solo singing, choral music, African Percussion, classical guitar and keyboard.
According to Cultivaria festival director, Gerhard Meyer, the music centre has made a huge impact on learners in Paarl and has fostered an enormous amount of local talent.
“Funds raised during the Bovril black-tie dinner will be utilised to buy new musical instruments for the school and will have a widespread effect on the budding musicians in our communities.
From 23 to 26 September some of South Africa’s leading artists will perform at various venues in Paarl. Bookings can be done at www.cultivaria.com or contact 021-872-9754.
