THE Drakenstein Super Cycle Series is in full swing and this coming weekend cyclists can participate in the three-day cycling tour from 24 September to 26 September.

The tour will consist of four stages for elites, u.23, juniors and veterans. The u.10 to u.16 and ladies’ races will start on 25 September.

All riders can collect numbers and register tomorrow at the Boland Cricket Stadium from 08:00.

Stage 1 on Friday will take the riders on a circular route starting in Market Street (Paarl Rugby Club), towards Paarl Mall via Berg River Boulevard, along Cecelia Street and back to the start/finish in Market Street. The Open riders (elites/u.23 and juniors) will do 120km and the Veterans 100km. The open group will start at 10:00, veterans 10:05 and the fun ride will start at 10:10.

Fun riders can enter for the 60km fun ride (R20). All you need is a bike and a safety helmet.

On Saturday the stage will start and finish at the Taal Monument. The first group, open category, will start at 10:00. Veterans will start at 10:05, u.16 and ladies 10:10 and u.12/14 will start at 10:30.

The route will take the riders towards Agter Paarl/Windmeul via the R44 road. The riders will complete a few laps in Agter Paarl before returning to the Taal Monument.

On Sunday 26 September the riders will do two stages. On Sunday morning all riders from u.12 to veterans will participate in an individual hill climb time trial starting at Courtrai Primary School (Taal Monument Road) and they will finish at the top of the Taal Monument climb.

The starting time of the first rider of the u.12’s will be at 09:00. On Sunday afternoon all riders will do a criterion race at Tata Motors Paarl Valley in Triangle Park. The first group will be the u.12/14 starting at 11:30 and doing a 15 minute criterion.

The main criterion race will be the open category and this will ensure for some exciting racing. The criterion circuit will be over a distance of 800 metres. The main race on Sunday afternoon will be 1 hour long.

Spectators will be in for a great race and they can position themselves along the circuit at Triangle Park, Paarl.

The Drakenstein Traffic Department will assist the event with the traffic logistics. Tata Paarl Valley Motors will sponsor vehicles for the three-day tour.
