WELLINGTON police officers had there hands full last week, when they were faced with a biting man as well as a riotous crowd. The officers were conducting a routine patrol in Blignautstreet, when they noticed a suspicious looking man. They tried to apprehend him, but he resisted arrest. The police were able to catch up to him, but the suspect was not about to take his imminent arrest lying down. He literally fought hand and tooth against the officers who where trying to keep him under control. One policeman was bitten on the shoulder, another on the leg and another on the arm. And while the police were trying to bring the carnivorous suspect under control, about 60 local residents then became riotous, pelting the police with stones and abuse. Officers were forced to fire shots to disperse the crowd. The suspect was eventually searched and a large amount of dagga was found in his possession. Ical Maduwa was arrested for the possession of drugs and assaulting the police officers. The police officers had to undergo medical treatment for their bite-wounds.
