Where are the cameras they promised?
2010-09-23
RECENTLY Paarl Post published a letter stating that 60 cameras had been bought for a Youth Day project held in 2009, querying the cost of the project. In its response, the municipality stated that the cameras are available at the different municipal libraries for the use of the community. I went to two libraries, and was informed at both that there were no cameras available for loan. At a third library I was told that a “prototype” camera had just arrived (last week), but they were waiting for the rest and would then have to catalogue them before they would be available to the public. Why does the Municipality now suddenly want to take the cameras to the libraries, more than a year after they were purchased? Maybe because of the issues raised in the letter? At a conservative costing of R1000 per digital camera, this means at least R60 000 was spent fruitlessly and that the Municipality is now scrabbling to limit the damage to their image - a year too late. Not impressed
