GARDEN enthusiasts can visit and relax in two beautiful Wellington gardens that are open to the public at the week- end.
Klein Optenhorst in the historic Bovlei valley and a town garden in Burg Street, are open on Saturday and Sunday from 09:30 to 17:00.
The town garden of Peter and Lizette Siderfin is an organic garden in the centre of Wellington. Animals and insects co-exist in perfect harmony, as no chemicals have been used for many years.
Nature looks after itself and the insects are part of the food chain for all the birds and wild life in the garden. There are peacocks, guinea fowls, hadedas, rabbits, tortoises, ducks, chickens and squirrels. In a koi-dam, hungry fish are always begging for food.
Entrance to the garden is R10. For more information, contact Lizette on 021-873-2985.
) In the Bovlei the rambling garden of Jenny and Naas Ferreira has unusual heat-tolerant plants, among these the largest collection of Salvias ever assembled in South Africa. There is also an ancient wild olive believed to be more than 400 years old.
Entrance to the garden (R35) includes tea and home-made scones. For more information, contact Jenny Ferreira on 021-864-1210 or ferreira@patat.co.za
