TO combat the encroaching danger of rabies, the Department of Agriculture has embarked on a massive campaign to vaccinate animals against this deadly virus. They will visit Paarl and Wellington next week. Rabies can be found in wild animals, and this is often passed on to domestic pets such as cats and dogs. And if a person is then bitten by a rabid animal, the results are often lethal. Rabies is a disease that affects the brain and leads to the death of the person or animal involved. Symptoms vary widely and may include behavioural changes, aggression, salivation and paralysis. To have your pet vaccinated free of charge, visit Weltevrede Sports Grounds on 1 November from 13:00 to 18:00, Newton (field opposite Kristal’s Market) on 2 November, Mbekweni (field opposite Shoprite) on 3 November, Smartie Town, Paarl (field next to library) on 4 November, Groenheuwel, Paarl (field next to Allandale Prison) on 9 November, Chicago, Paarl (old bus stop opposite Spar) on 9 November and Paarl East (open field in Paulus Street also used by SPCA) on 10 November. The vaccination clinics will be open from 13:00 until 18:00 at each venue. The public is encouraged to bring any pets to the clinic for vaccinations, and thereby ensuring the safety entire community.
