Patrolling of streets needed

Patrolling of streets needed

2010-11-04

I AM concerned about the local crime rate.

I am a caretaker of a hotel in central Paarl since April this year and the situation in our street has become unbearable.

The pavement in front of our bar has been taken over by vagrants who not only give our hotel a bad name, but also litter the pavement and use the drain as a dirt bin.

We have asked them repeatedly to leave, but are met with dirty language.

We have had our painters’ room broken into and clothing stolen. The other day a young school boy was attacked and his cellphone stolen whilst he was walking to the taxi rank. I have also been robbed in the same place.

The windows have been broken and filthy wording written on our recently painted walls.

The owners have spent a fortune refurbishing our hotel and we can no longer tolerate the present situation. We need the police to patrol our street.
