Ten years of open water swim celebrated
2010-11-04
NEXT Sunday (14 November) marks the 10th anniversary of the annual Winelands Mile Open Water Charity Swim at the Ashanti Wine Estate. In November 2001 this event of the Winelands Masters Swimming Club was the first open water swim to be presented as a charity fundraiser. The beneficiary will again be Good Hope Psychology Services (GHPS) which provides support for traumatised, needy people (mostly children) in the Drakenstein and Boland area. There are lots of age categories with prizes for the first three placings in each, as well as spot prizes. Entries are accepted until 10:00 on race day. In addition to the mile swim (10:30) there will be a 200m junior swim for children up to 12 years at 10:00. After the main event, a 4x200m relay (all ages, mixed) provides fun for any group keen on getting back in the water.
