Mayoral Cup soccer semi-finals

THE Drakenstein Soccer Mayoral Cup is entering the semi-final stage this Saturday (13 November) in the senior men’s division. Two matches will be played at the Mbekweni sports grounds with the first match between Paarl United Pirates and Try Again at 15:00 followed by Mbekweni United vs FC Athletico or Mbekweni Sundowns at 17:00 (depending on tonight’s match result). So far, the competition has been marked by the strength of debutants in the group stages of the tournament. However, these brave stints by the new teams were not enough to ensure them places in the knock-out stages. The experience and skills of the older teams seemed to be too much for them. The more experienced sides ensured an eventful and action packed last 16 stages, followed by even more thrilling quarter finals. In the last 16 stage, Paarl United Pirates beat Paarl SC, Juventus beat TK Lions, Mbekweni United beat Double V, African Jaguars beat Tigers, FC Athletico beat Blackburn Rovers, City Killers beat Mbekweni Sundowns, Victoria FC beat All Stars and Try Again beat Boland Warriors. In the quarter final stage last Saturday (7 November) at the Boy Louw fields Mbekweni United beat African Jaguars 3-1, Paarl United Pirates beat Juventus 2-1 and Try Again beat Victoria 3-0. The FC Athletico vs Mbekweni Sundowns match is scheduled for today.
