Walk and collect on Paarl Mountain
2005-10-06
THE Friends of Paarl Mountain will be joined by the Winelands branch of the Botanical Society on Saturday for a walk and collecting trip in the Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve.
Participants will learn how scientific plant collecting is undertaken and be able to enjoy the fantastic spring flower display in the nature reserve.
October is by far the best time to view the spring flora, with many bulbs and shrubs in full flower.
Members of Crew (Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers) programme will also be joining the outing.
Crew, which is an initiative instituted by SANBI (SA National Biodiversity Institute), aims to gather data on rare and endangered species and assists volunteers with monitoring these species.
Crew aims to establish a satellite group in Paarl and Friends and BotSoc members will be shown how to fill in CREW data sheets.
They will be meeting at the herbarium, main picnic site (Meulwater), Jan Phillips Mountain Drive at 14:00. Please bring refreshments.
