Beware of these scams

Beware of these scams

PAARLITES, especially within the CBD, are being caught once again by scam artists.

The latest trend consists of the public being threatened by men claiming to be police officers.

A woman this week fell into this trap when coming out of a bank in Lady Grey Street. Once outside, she came across a plastic bankbag filled with money.

As she bent down to pick it up, a man grabbed the bag. When an argument broke out between the two, a man dressed in plain clothes came up to them and claimed to be a policeman.

He said that the whole incident had been captured on camera and accused the two of theft.

The woman was eventually bamboozled into handing over her purse, after which the men disappeared. The police are thus warning the public to be alert to such incidents.

If anybody claiming to be a police officer approaches you, you have the right to take a closer look at their identification documents, to see whether the photograph corresponds with the face of the person. You can take note of the force number and confirm this by contacting the nearest police station.
