Classic Wine Trophy now judged in Paarl
2005-10-06
THE Classic Wine Trophy was founded in 1998 by Jean-Vincent Ridon of Signal Hill Wines and will now be co-sponsored by the Santé Winelands Hotel in Paarl.
Due to the expansion of this popular competition, Christophe Durand now partners Ridon in the execution of the contest. Durand is the owner and winemaker for Vin d’Orrance and importer of French Oak barrels. Together they hope to reinforce the Classic Wine Trophy and its classic French approach.
The Santé Winelands Hotel and Wellness Centre provide accommodation for the judges as well as hosting the luncheon for the award winners.
The Eighth Santé Classic Wine Trophy is different from the usual wine awards in that it has an exclusive panel of French judges. The exclusivity of this competition is emphasised by the limited number of winners every year.
Unlike other competitions, only ten gold medals for red wine, five gold medals for white wine, one gold medal for the best sparkling wine and one gold medal for the best sweet or sparkling wine are awarded.
Three trophies will also be awarded: one for the best red wine, one for the best white wine and a third trophy is the Jury prize for the best value wine. This is a maximum of 3% of the entrants.
It is the policy of the Santé Classic Wine Trophy to maintain an extremely high standard in regard to award winners.
