New timer at Dal Josaphat

2010-12-09

ATHLETES will soon be able to run times that are recorded according to international standard at the Dal Josaphat Stadium.

For more than 30 years Drakenstein athletes have run record times at the Dal Josaphat Stadium which were unfortunately not accepted by the IAAF. As a result Drakenstein athletes could not qualify here for international events.

The Drakenstein Municipality is now, under the watchful eyes of Boland Athletics, building a tower consisting of 4 levels at the stadium in Paarl.

Once the tower is completed, an international standard electronic timing device will record times according to IAAF standards.

The electronic timing tower will be finished in February, in time for the 2011 South African High Schools Championships from 24-26 March.

To ensure that the electronic timing tower is tested thoroughly, a series of top class athletics meetings will take place at the stadium before the big event hosted by Drakenstein.
