Academy too strong for Central I
2010-12-09
THE Central 1 regional side played in a 45 over friendly match against the Boland Academy at the Parys Oval on Sunday 29 November. The Central 1 side, being depleted due to club matches taking place on the same day, won the toss and captain Craig Abrahams elected to field. The Academy opening pair of H Jordaan and J Delport laid a fantastic foundation of 59 runs. Thereafter, Academy captain Dewald Botha produced a sparkling innings of 100 runs off 115 deliveries with 12 fours and 3 sixes. D Mitchell produced a little gem of an innings when he struck 26 runs off 9 deliveries to take the Academy total to 248 for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted 45 overs. The best Central I bowlers were Craig Abrahams with 2/42 and Byron Walters with an analysis of 1/42 off his allotted 9 overs. In their batting stint, the Central batsmen were put under the cosh by accurate bowling by the Academy seamers. D Mitchell rounded a very good all-round display when he took 3/28 in his 9 overs and he was ably supported by Charlton Daniels (2/20), Jade Adams (2/20) and Hein Adonis (2/37). It was only Wayne Jantjies (19 off 14 deliveries) and Alfredo Adams (35 off 21 deliveries) who really took the offensive to the Academy with some belligerent hitting. The Central 1 side were all dismissed for 169 which allowed the Academy to triumph by 79 runs. The Academy, coached by Protea Paul Adams, stated that they will be involved in an Academy week in Potchefstroom in early 2011 where they will be playing 3 consecutive two day matches.
