Good day ends badly at local pub
2010-12-09
WHAT started out as a great day, almost ended very badly. Bonus day, baby girl’s Gr R graduation. A lot of excitement in my household. So we decided to visit EJ’s Sports Pub in Main Street, Northern Paarl, to celebrate all these great things. Mom, dad and the kids. And what a major disappointment. On our arrival, a lady was showing two guests where to go and dine in a friendly manner. We stood there, for our first time, not knowing where to go to sit down and order. The lady saw us standing there and upon looking straight into my face, just simply ignored us, no greeting, nothing. She went to fetch some pens to write on a board, we stood there. My husband was trying to get her attention, twice, and still no response. Upon the third attempt, after he had approached her, she showed us where we could sit, either inside, our outside at the pool, from where she was standing, pointing her finger. We decided to go sit by the pool. At that point, we could clearly assess the situation and set-up at EJ’s. She talked to the people who entered before us in a friendly manner, why was she treating us like that? What was the most disappointing was that my children had to witness this and I had to explain to them. We decided to leave. We’ll go spend our hard earned money, elsewhere. In this day and age, this racism is totally uncalled for. We went elsewhere, where we got fantastic service as always, with ice cream on the house for the kids. Wendy Kaizer-Philander (Paarl East) Enzelle Fourie of EJ’s Sports Pub responds: Unfortunately a staff member from the adjoining entertainment business who is responsible for updating the notice board, was mistaken for our receptionist. All members of the community are welcome at EJ’s Sports Pub.
