Staff at music centre are dedicated
2010-12-09
IT really saddened me to read the article on the crisis at the Frank Pietersen Music Centre. I was fortunate to have my daughter take violin lessons at the centre for 7 years. During those years I was always astounded at the dedication of the staff headed by Mr Vaughan Pietersen, nothing ever seemed too much effort for them. The tuition my daughter received was of outstanding standard and the opportunities she experienced were invaluable. No matter what your standard was, everyone was always included in the performances which the learners all really enjoyed. Mr Pietersen and his management committee went out of there way to accommodate students who were unable to meet their fees and also getting them back and forth to lessons and performances. I know of an occasion where promises were made by the Department which were, to my knowledge, never realised, and it does not come as a surprise that the Centre has fallen on hard times. Even before these economic hard times we are all experiencing, I was amazed at how they managed on the very little they had. It does seem a shame however that there are fingers being pointed at Mr Pietersen. It must be incredibly hard to lose your income and my sympathy goes out to those staff members, but I really cannot believe that these decisions were taken lightly. I am only hoping that this crisis will awaken the private sector of Paarl/Wellington and that even in these exceptionally hard times they will realise the enormous asset we have here in our midst and reach out to this Music Centre and help them financially. In closing I would like to thank Mr Pietersen and his staff for the positive input they had in my daughter’s life and hopefully by saying this, encourage them in some little way.
