Established nine years ago in Johannesburg, StopWash has come a long way since its humble beginnings cleaning cars in corporate parking lots.
In 2002, valet technicians (VT) regularly washed the SUV of the then-CEO of Liberty Properties. He was so impressed with the service that he invited StopWash to start washing cars at a couple of shopping malls managed by the company.
It’s the classic case of being in the right place at the right time.
Since then, StopWash washes over 85 000 vehicles a month.
“When we started offering this service at shopping malls, we had to convince car owners that they could entrust their vehicles to us,” explains StopWash CEO Mark Kruger.
If gaining trust was the battle, StopWash has emerged the victor.
Corporate clients like Vodacom, Investec and Grand Central Motors leave their vehicles in StopWash’s capable hands and a deal was signed recently with Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) that will see StopWash servicing one of Africa’s largest airports, Cape Town International.
Each VT, mostly women, isn’t just an employee, she manages her own franchise. She rents her uniform and buys her cleaning products from StopWash, but works for herself.
Each VT undergoes training. They also improve security by keeping an eye out for anything suspicious at malls.
The cleaning products that StopWash use have played as key a role. A revolutionary patented product called Crystal Ice is applied in the cleaning process.
Crystal Ice is a water-based product developed over a period of 16 months that took extensive research.
