Van Dyk hoping for title
2011-01-13
Ernst van Dyk from Paarl, four-time winner of the Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge (OCC) presented by Vodacom, will be hoping to regain the marathon title in George on 19 February, after being runner-up for the past four years, and has undertaken to promote this increasingly popular annual event amongst fellow athletes on the international circuit. The deadline for race entries is 30 January. Athletes will be competing for prize money of R244 000 in 42 categories over three distances - a 42,2km full marathon and a 21,1km half-marathon for athletes using racing wheelchairs or hand cycles, as well as a 10km distance, which also allows basketball chairs and ordinary wheelchairs. There is also a popular fun event for people with disability of all age groups who take part with a helper. For more information, visit the OCC website www.georgeocc.co.za or phone event director Esther Watson on 082-421-9359.
