A month before the second Freedom Race

WITH less than a month to go before the 27 for Freedom Race (12 February) at the Drakenstein Correctional Centre, it has just become a whole lot more interesting and worth entering, now that pure gold and silver coins are at stake in the men’s and women’s 27km event. It also includes a bronzed floating trophy sponsored by the South African Gold Coin Exchange. The 27km event that commemorates the 21st anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s historic release from Victor Verster Prison (now the Drakenstein Correctional Centre) is the second 27 for Freedom Race to be held at the Drakenstein Correctional Facility between Paarl and Franschhoek on the R301.
