2011-01-13
THIS Saturday the Jive and Boland Cricket club and regional Twenty/20 cricket competition will start with 6 club matches in the first round. The Boland Cricket Board, in association with Quality Beverages, launched this competition at the end of last year. The purpose of the 20/20 initiative is to garner more public support for the Boland cricket team and Cobras franchise. It serves as a vehicle to make young people more aware of cricket, the organisers said. This year will also see a semi-professional 20/20 competition among the amateur provinces, which are the feeders to the six national franchises. From this competition, coastal and inland sides will be selected to extend the 20/20 competition at franchise level to eight teams. This Saturday in the Boland Premier A section Hermanus will host Young Peoples, Paarl will host Victorians, Stellenbosch and Districts will host Brackenfell, Coronation will host Van der Stel, Vredendal/Saldanha is up against Maties and Paarl East (New Orleans fields) will meet their neighbour, Wellington/CPUT. The matches will start at 10:00 to 13:00. Round two of this competition will commence on 5 February when 12 matches will be played. The regional Pro20 competition, where 8 teams participate will commence on 23 January.
