SENIOR police members from all over the country are currently attending the Executive Development Leadership Programme (EDLP) at the SAPS Academy in Paarl.
This week they made a difference in the lives of a number of unemployed police reservists doing voluntary work at Paarl East police station as well as young farm children attending the Leliefontein Preprimary Farm School in the Bovlei in Wellington.
The high-ranking police members are attending a six-week course in Paarl aimed at enhancing leadership, instilling greater emotional intelligence and improving management skills amongst members. Their motto is “Yes We Care”.
One of the modules they completed is Team Excellence where they must identify community projects to conduct and then execute them.
Among the group of 28 attending the EDLP are 24 brigadiers, two colonels and two captains. Two groups were formed and each group prepared a community project.
The first group decided to assist 17 unemployed police reservists linked to Paarl East police station with food hampers and gift vouchers.
The second group decided to give assistance to the Leliefontein Preprimary Farm School in the Bovlei Wellington.
At Leliefontein, the little ones were entertained by the police puppet (Constable Sussie Skinner) and three other puppets. This police puppet show is becoming much acclaimed in the Boland.
The playground area at the school was cleaned and cleared of debris and brand new swings were put in place. But there was more to come – food parcels, writing materials, water bottles, sweets, cleaning materials, a large mattress and blankets for quiet hour at the school.
