READ with interest that Mbekweni Police are trying to curb crime whilst in my opinion it is spiralling out of control
Recently my son visited from Johannesburg. His cellphone, skycandy, a wallet with bank cards and a library card were stolen by three young men who threatened to stab him.
Police were immediately summoned, but they did not arrive. Mbekweni is a small township and in no time it was known who had commited the crime. Police arrived to fetch the criminal only when the family made the public arrest.
I arrived and went to inquire at the police station after one of the criminals indicated that two days later he was searched by the police and the cards were found on him. The police took the cards and let him go.
They pointed out to me to whom they gave the phone. This man indicated that he had swapped a R4000 phone for Tik and then gave the phone to the local cellphone repairer to unblock the phone. The phone was later sold to a foreign man who sells stolen phones in Congo.
I brought the criminals to the police station as I believed there was so much linking them, reasoning as well other people might not have been as lucky.
We met with the investigating officer who gave me the cards and told me nothing much can be done and he released the crooks.
I felt a profound fool as the officer undermined all my efforts and told me he was rushing to court.
If police continue to act in that manner I believe Mbekweni will forever be a skunk that is lawless and unbecoming!
Thanks for nothing, cops, you are the worst I’ve seen. I wish you could have seen the trauma in my son’s eyes when he saw the mugger.
