THE first round of cricket matches in the Boland Premier A Jive Pro Twenty20 series, with a winner’s prize of R7 000, kicked off last Saturday, with Paarl facing Victorians in a humdinger of a match at the Parys grounds.

Paarl batted first and the entire top order contributed with Rudy Andrews (56), Darryl Hendricks (34), Graham Adams (33) and Lynal Jansen (23) providing the bulk of the scoring.

Paarl scored 175 for the loss of 3 wickets in their alotted 20 overs.

Victorians got off to a cracker in their turn at the crease with B Jackson scoring 68.

Other contributors were H Jordaan with 32 runs and D Botha (35). Hilroy Paulse was the most effective Paarl bowler picking up 2/26 in his 4 overs.

Unfortunately Victorians fell 4 runs short as they could only master 171 in their 20 overs. Andrews was also adjudicated as the most valuable player (MVP) in the match.

) In the other Section A encounter, Hermanus beat Young Peoples CC by 6 wickets. Young Peoples batted first and could only scramble 86 runs in their 20 overs with Dominic Daniels providing a high score of 22.

Bardo Fransman was Hermanus’s best bowler with an analysis of 3/15 in his alotted 4 overs. G Ferreira also struck telling blows and ended with an analysis of 2/15 in his 4 overs. He also contributed 29* with the bat. Hermanus scored the winning runs in 10,4 overs thereby securing a bonus point in their victory. Ferreira was adjudicated as the MVP by both umpires.

) In another section A clash, Stellenbosch & Districts and Brackenfell came head to head at Idas Valley. Brackenfell batted first and accumulated a handy 128/5 with Michael Loubser (51* off 18 balls) and Willem du Toit (48) the most accomplished batsmen.

Hennie Pietersen fared best with the ball with an analysis of 2/20.

In reply, Stellenbosch and Districts came 6 runs short when they could only reach 122/6 in their 20 overs. Allister Pool scored a gutsy 49 runs in the chase. Willem du Toit was the best bowler with his analysis of 2/14 in 4.

) In the section B match-up of Paarl East and Wellington, the latter came away with the spoils by 4 wickets. Paarl East batted first with young Keagan Petersen scoring a quick 41 (4x4) and was ably supported by Bruce Miller (33 2x4). Paarl reached the score of 126/7 in their 20 overs.

Craig Abrahams was Wellington’s best bowler with 2/25 in his 4 overs. Gerswin Williams provided fantastic support by conceding only 7 runs in his 4 overs which included 2 maidens.

In their chase, Wellington lost early wickets, but Craig Abrahams (24) and A Blom (30) steadied the ship and allowed Wellington to score the winning runs in the nineteenth over.

Jade Adams was Paarl East’s best bowler with an analysis of 2/15 in 4 overs. Craig Abrahams was adjudicated the MVP by the umpires.

) In the other section B match, Coronations came up against Van der Stel. Van der Stel batted first and accumulated a more than handy 160 runs. Caden Laing (67) and Herman Ingwersen (30) were the best batsmen.

Enslin Williams was Coronations’s best bowler with an analysis of 4/27 in his 4 overs. Veteran Jacques van Wyk had an analysis of 2/29.

In their chase, Coronations fell 12 runs short with Steve Februarie (47), Enslin Williams (29) and Verno Stubbs making the best contribution with the bat. Jacques Krynauw had the best bowling analysis of 3/25.

) The Maties vs Vredenburg-Saldanha match has been postponed until further notice due to the number of players from Maties being involved in the provincial match against KZN.

The runners-up in this series will receive prize money of R5 000. The third and fourth spot will earn R3 000 each and the 5th to 12th place R1 500 each.
