ON Wednesday 26 January the Choir Academy of the Frank Pietersen Music Centre will be holding an open day for all learners of the Winelands District who love choral singing. This will take place in the form of workshops from 17:30 to 19:00 at the music centre in Sanddrift Street, Paarl.
Both the Youth Choir and the Children’s Choir are looking for new members. Any learners aged 11 to 13 years are welcome to attend a workshop with the Children’s Choir conductor, Celia Vos, and experience first hand the joys of singing.
High school learners and young adults (14 to 22 years old) can join the Youth Choir under the leader-ship of Johannes Schickeling, the new Youth Choir conductor. Parents are welcome to come as well to hear more about these choirs and to register if interested. Both choirs have a reputation of excellence, the Youth Choir obtaining Gold at the Tygerberg Eisteddfod and Cum Laude at Paarl Valley Eisteddfod. They perform regularly at churches and have had joint concerts with international choirs. The Choir Academy is aiming to join hands with choir conductors and accompanists in the area and will be presenting workshops and choral events in the future. Contact Jo-Nette LeKay on 021-872-2123/4.
